I dabble with other strings but always return to rotosound roundwound. I've just been reading about Ken Smith strings, does anyone know if they are any good. Or do you swear by another brand?

I've used DR hi-beams and really like them. Now I'm playing in a three piece I'm looking for a heavier sound especially on the higher strings. any power rock bassists out there with a suggestion?

I had D'Addario on my old bass. I have now started using Rotosound Solo. Much less wear on my left hand fingers! I do not use a pick and these sound bright enough. I did try DR hi-beams. Amazing sound, and tone consistency across the strings, but too bright for me, and too rough on my fingers with the slides.

Ahhh!! Not sure I can answer that.
I have been using them for about 10 months and have had no trouble.
They retain brightness and have a good mix of bass, middle and top.
Some strings are all "top" some are all "thud" - these are in the middle.
To be fair, each bass doesn't get a lot of hammering, as I rotate them.
If I were playing the same one, home, reheasal and gig, things may be
different but up to now, I am very please with them.
As I said, at £8.00 a shot, what can you loose?
Let's try another link!

Cheers. :)

how do they survive a proper battering? i, for my sins, am a very heavy handed player, prone to occasionally breaking the odd E string (only once at a gig), i'm confident with swings that they'll last me 6 months of hammering before i need to replace them (no boiling being done here!!) how do the picatos stand up?

Hi. In my attempt to get the hang of this place, I have been wandering round and come across this.
For what it is worth. . . . .
Try a set of Picato 735 LHY 40 -100. Other sizes available.
I have them on quite a few of my basses.
In the past I have had Rotosound, D'Addario, Stadium Elite and several others.
Worth a try at around £8.00 a set.

Cheers. :)

Rotosound Swings all the way, I used to use 45-105s on my old Aria SB600 and now use their 40-95's on a short scale Fender Mustang.

I was recently talking to the guy at Strings Direct/Holiday Music who worked at the Bass Centre for 20 years who told me that there are only 3 factories in the world that make strings so you might find that when you changed from Rotosounds that you were just using rebadged Rotosound strings

KS strings are pretty good and they last too.
