The OX Remembered

Jon 'The OX' Entwhistle changed the way the bass was played and in doing so changed rock music forever. You can hear when Keith Moon died the way the Ox had to drop back and play the bottom. I've always been fascinated by the way certain combinations of bass and drums makes the sound so distinctive that you can almost tell which band it is just by listening to the drum and bass tracks. One of the reason all the reggae tracks of the '80s and early '90s sounded so similar is that Sly and Robbie played on almost all of them. The character of a band is built from the bottom up, just like a woman.
