Dunno if this is of interest to anyone, but I went to check out Jan's North London Jam at the Three Wishes 122/126 High Street Edgware

http://www.myspace.com/jansnorthlondonjam

It operates most Monday nights and begins with a couple of songs from a house band, following which anyone is free to join in on any instrument/vocal and have a go at something.

I must confess I was expecting it to be some bunch of saddos having a drunken karaoke evening, but actually there were some really top drawer musicians in the house and it really got cooking once or twice.

Seemed to be mostly a heavy rock crowd, but we were treated to a bit funk and a memorable performance of Johnny B Goode from some old joker calling himself "Shakey"........in fact I think someone told me Shakin Stevens' actual drummer was in the house.

Going off at a complete tangent, I managed to really upset Shakin Stevens' guitarist once when I got talking to him at a party....well what would you say to someone who tells you that's what they do for a living?...I mean you'd take the piss - right? What else would you do, for God's sake?

Now I know at Rock-til-you-drop we're all proper serious musicians with proper serious bands, but I have to say Jan's Jam was a bloody good laugh and is definitely worth checking out - at least if you live in North London.

Keep smiling!

Otto

Hello Otto,

I play keyboards fairly regularly at the Monday night jam in Edgware. The evenings are consistently good with many very good musicians attending. The only problem for guitarists is that there are so many players that you only get to do two numbers. The house band are terrific and will play anything that is thrown at them. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
