So I played the acoustic Sunday again at The Libertine yesterday.
Sadly as members of R-T-Y-D should know by now The Libertine has been lost as the Saturday night band venue. Given that Toby was putting on the monthly Sunday afternoon sessions as a adjunct to those it's a possiblity that these might get put on ice in the future as well. It's a shame if that happens.
Anyway - yesterday was a good afternoon. We had a mix of two duos breaking out of their usual band mode and playing a mix of covers and originals in a stripped down acoustic setting. First up were Andy & Chris from Lionhouse (who started out as The Lion house band... get it? very good). I commented to my son that using the vocal processor to get harmonies was cheating... only because I'd not thought of that one myself!
Next up was Waterfield wielding two lovely looking Martin acoustics (makes my Yamaha look a bit second class citizen) and again they melded some original material into a set of interesting covers.
Lastly was Toby Nuttall from The Beast who sadly I could only listen to the first couple of numbers before departing to get my daughter to a swimming training session (the perennial problems of being a mature musician). I was very impressed with what I heard of Toby. Plus I now see why people rave about Taylors - his sounded brilliant!
I was third on the bill. This time my set was virtually all original material with two new songs Daydreams and Golden Moment receiving their first ever live performances. I also threw in two new covers - Phil Campbell's This Is History and Josh Radin's Brand New Day. I took to standing up at this gig rather than sitting like I've done at the previous ones. I think it is much more "me" and helps with the singing a bit. Toby made the comment that he considered it my most confident set he'd seen me perform there.
So onward and upward. I know I've said this before but the challenge now is to start getting some more gigs as with all the covers getting towards 2 hours is possibly doable.
