Hiya Martin. I teach guitar, bass and music tech and make a few vids etc . There has never been a better time for music than now . Kids are so open minded now it's amazing . The internet and the ipod have liberated peoples taste from manufactured mu…

I have teenage kids. Music is important to both of them. One, my son, discovered music via his English teacher - how do you get 12 year old boys who are at the lower end of the ability spectrum with respect to English interested in it? Simple you p…

My main instrument is one I was born with. I have always sung, sometimes in bands and sometimes not. I've had thousands of hours of practice now and it's just the same as if it was an intrument. You know what though? When I was a teenager, I insiste…

The difference now for us older guys, is that when I started playing guitar, you had to learn the art of listening and copying what you were learning. There were no tools like those you get with the digital revolution for example, the ability to slo…

Yep, nicely put, Martin. I agree. There's a very different vibe these days. Too much style over substance, for me. But that's not to say there ain't great musicians out there...there are!

Think youre missing my point here. I wasn't talking about being cool or seen as cool. I mean you have 24 hour music tv now its there in your face where as I remember waiting all week to slag off top of the pops. We are saturated with music now. Alth…

Yeah it's such a disappointment The older I get the better I play EROTA is now a full rocking band Jeez I wish I could play like this when I was 21! ....is it too late? Most likely the sands of middle age corrode all your time and provide oither re…

Ming's right. There's no point fixating on comparisons of 'then and now'. This is now, and if you want to play music and move forward, you gotta have a postive attitude about the new world of music that you're operating in. Like it, or lump it. Don'…

The older I get the worse I get, seniles on roundabouts innit. And music is the social glue it always was it's just we are old farts now and don't appreciate the music the kids are into as we've seen it all before. Stop being such party poopers just…

Agreed, music is no longer the social glue that it was for our generation. Also agreed that the older we get, the better we play. Like footballers; the young ones dash all over the pitch in a frenzy, while the older players take a look around, read…

Paul, Pardon me, but I don't think it is that simple...some might argue that video saved the radio star...and it is no irony that the Buggles message was conveyed through video...and at the same time MTV was heavily promoted by Bono and U2...strong…

simple isn't it... Video killed the radio star...

Is music more important to youth today as 30, 20, 10 years ago?...I believe undoubtedly so...music provides the context and the description of a shared cluture and shared experience...go to a WOMAD concert and most of the audience demonstrate that t…

Gray Dourman said:Trisha,I agree with some of what you say, but not all...just like you like some contemporary pop music...but not all...I don't really think that's the point that was being made...Making music has lost its 'art'...now every kid with…

Describe your musician status (you can pick more than one description):
Looking to join a band
Please tell us more about your band/music:
i've been playing for a while now and have only ever wanted to play music for a living but things never work out like we plan. I play with a sa band but not often enough. I just wanna get out there and do more stuff. Im faily open to most styles of music. I prefer to play rock / funky stuff and enjoy doing covers too. I know many musicians dont like to do covers but I have learned things I never would have thought about by doing other peoples songs. Im a pretty versatile player but I dont do that Satriani wibbley bibbley stuff. I have a lot of gigging experience and really I just wanna get out there and, if theres some pocket money in it thats even better.
What do you do for a living?
Just been laid off
