THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN CONVENTION AND INNOVATION

Here it is. The project brief is come up with something that sounds different, fresh, innovative but don't make it so radical that folks can't peg it into their already listening. OK. Take chord subsitution, add world music rythyms, change the vocalisations and harmonies...and voila! a mess. I could be trimming the hedge but somewhere, somehow, once more before I cash in my chips, I'm going to get that review that says...'takes music one step further'.

Jon 'The OX' Entwhistle changed the way the bass was played and in doing so changed rock music forever. You can hear when Keith Moon died the way the Ox had to drop back and play the bottom.
