Natural Impulse

Bio: "Hey I went to see a band they were very good." "Oh yeah I said I've heard it all before". "No really I'm not just saying it. Look don't take my word for it take a listen for yourself." So I went along on Saturday night and he wasn't joking Natural Impulse are great new band. Viki breathing fresh vocal life and syncopated Conga beats into classic tunes. Viki also plays guitar on a few songs. Steve choosing to use clean fluid guitar lines on the Les Paul and Strat cascading notes and choosing tone over volume and overdrive. Chris painting a pallet of chord colour on his Telecaster which at times sound like a visual rainbow. After meeting the band I became aware that they have an incredible sense of humour always laughing and joking . But they do take their music serious. They have an unusual term for their music calling it "Free fall" Whatever they call it they do sound good so watch out this band is going places.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY Steve had been the guitar player in a Band called "Show us your Monkey." which had been formed with the sole intention of playing charity gigs and raising money for world disasters. There were a lot of ego's in the band Steve knew it wouldn't last. In the background he was working away putting pen to paper writing songs that could be maybe used in a later project. This surfaced in the formation of his next band called "The Sour Grapes." This enabled him to step away from Marshall amps and distorted guitars. And replace them with clean lyrical guitar lines and laid back latin american drums. From which he piloted his song writing lead vocals and harmonies. The band were fine with recording work but were not keen to take it on the road. If you've been there you'll know why! There is a good representation of his original material from around this period laying around on C.D. somewhere it may appear on here at some point in time. Since that time Steve had been looking around but found it hard to find any musicians to play his new style and fresh angled approach with. An odd turn of events led him to a chat with Viki with whom he works. She sang, he played and well, it just goes to show you need look no further than your own backyard. After a 15 year sabbatical, Chris started playing again with a bunch of mates who he had played with in a band called Soul Image which was formed when they were at still at school. Sadly, this only lasted less than a year but by then he had really got the bug for playing music again. On the back of that he formed another band which was to be known as The Queue. They had a great 4 years playing noisy rock music and had a good local following. After another quiet period, the vocalist from The Queue and Chris formed Q2, a guitar duo playing local venues on and off for a number of years until the lead guitarist from The Queue joined them and they became Q3. They then became a more guitar orientated band. This came to an end in summer of 2006 and in October of that year, Chris started advertising for musicians to form a Corporate/Functions band and D-Railed were formed and although Chris left recently, the band are still playing.

Although the idea had been bubbling around with Steve and Vicky for a while it was only in mid July when Chris joined up with the two of them and played together for the first time. The two styles of guitar playing gelled immediately and along with Vicky's superb vocals and Conga percussion playing, Natural Impulse were formed. They have a unique knack of stripping classic covers down to basics and adding their own influence to the song, creating a very laid back feel to their performance. Along with other classic acoustic sounding artists such as Sade, Adele and Alison Krauss and other upbeat artists such as U2, REM, Eric Clapton the Band manage to create a real ambient atmosphere. Natural Impulse are already gigging and have a number of upcoming gigs. They are mainly pubs and small venues as the band are trying to spread their name and music to as many different areas as possible as they are aiming to break into the wedding/corporate and private functions market. They are also recording a CD for promotional purposes and are hoping to reach out to a wider audience with some original song compositions.
