I'm interested in what others think about the plethora of "routes to market" (I may not be an MBA but I've got the lingo ;-)).   I started a Reverbnation page of mine about 2 years ago - I've had some success with that, I liked in that it was easy to set up and get stuff loaded and visible and it could mix audio and video and it had options like "fan mail" etc.  However in the moving world of WWW2.0 it nows does look cluttered and dated.  I recently set up a Soundcloud page which has picked up a few followers etc.

Now I'm (also) a complete amateur I play the odd live set mostly at songwriter stages etc.  I've moved to a pretty much totally original set list and record stuff at home on a little Boss 8 track when I have the time and inspiration.

What are others using?  Spotify?  Is that worth someone like me forking out for?  I'm unlikely to make anything back - but is it still worthy as a way of "gettng heard".  Also what about iTunes and the like?  Reverbnation offers a route in but again for what I'm shelling out am I just going to feel it was all a bit pointless?

Would love to hear peoples views if they have any...

Hi Graham

I'm a bit obsessed with the music industry and the shift in power back to the writers/musicians through the digital markets. When you couple this with the ageing population and the all singing and dancing mobile devices, I honestly believe there are real chances out there, different opportunities in a changing world.

As a belt and braces approach I secured our name 'the Krypts' on Soundcloud and reverbnation. I've pretty much stuck with Reverbnation because it provided immediate solutions for my needs.  For example a simple affordable way of getting a song on itunes that took care of the ISRC registration and explained everything in both legal and layman terms.  We only went down that road because we felt there is an outside chance we might get radio play (Because its a Christmas song)

TBH I didn't check soundcloud out that thoroughly for comparisons because Reverbnation ticked all my boxes.

As a point of contact or a fan base tools, I mainly use facebook, I think we only have one fan on Reverbnation and 40 on Facebook since October.

I use spotify only to listen to music.  It's fun listening to other peoples playlists.

We recorded our Christmas song in the studio, but I usually use an Alesis multimix 8/macbook pro/Logic

We're all hopeful amateurs!

Goodluck and Rock til you drop

Liam

Great - thanks.... I've doubled your Reverbnation fan base btw :-)
