Maher died last October aged 41

Flowered Up singer Liam Maher died of a heroin overdose, an inquest has heard.

At the inquest into his death, held in St Pancras in London today (January 15), it was heard how the frontman had eight times the fatal level of the drug in his bloodstream when he died aged 41 in October 2009, reports the Camden New Journal.

There was no evidence of suicide, noted Coroner Sean McGovern, and a verdict of misuse of drugs was officially given for the death.

Maher was found dead in his Euston home by his girlfriend on October 20.

The singer fronted the baggy band Flowered Up in the early '90s and were considered by many as London's answer to northern bands like Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets. They appeared on the cover of NME in 1990, before they'd even released a single.

Flowered Up were best known for their Top 20 single 'Weekender', the 12-minute, 55-second track released in 1992.

They released their only album 'A Life With Brian' in 1991, before splitting in 1994.

After the band, Maher signed up to Alan McGee's Poptones record label in 2001, but the deal fell through before he released anything through them.
