I wanna get a gigging electro-acoustic guitar. But I also want something that sounds good without being plugged in, at home. Not mega-expensive. I dunno, up to £350? Anybody got any recommendations.
Thanks, Jimmy H

I'm very pleased with my Simon & Patrick, cost just under £400. Sounds good acoustically, is very well made and plays nicely without a setup. Made in the Godin factory in Quebec, the nearest you'll get to a hand-made guitar at this price.

Thanks Liam and Pete. Will check these out. J.
Permalink Reply by Mike Howell on December 13, 2010 at 19:10 Any of the Godin built acoustics are great (although I don't think too many electro models will fall in your price range). Their brands as well as S&P include Norman, Seagull and Art et Lutherie.
Crafter have a great range of well priced electro acoustics, often nicely discounted but include a decent set-up in your budget as they tend to come a little high on the action from the factory (although sometimes this will be easily sorted by removing the shims under the saddle).
I'd avoid Yamaha and Fender - controversial I know, but I think some of the lesser known brands are much better at that price point.

Not exactly the right answer for you, but the best acoustic guitar for stage use is the Yamaha Silent guitar. It cannot feed back and it's as light as a feather. To listen at home just plug in headphones and you wont bother anyone. You can read the blurb on it here http://uk.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/si... and listen to me playing one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnLqknwnRws

Nice neck, good sound both acoustic and plugged in. Had it just over a year and now it is played in it is sounded better and better. You can get them about £300.
They do steel and nylon string varieties. Not that common to see them in shops though
Permalink Reply by Martin Rider on January 17, 2011 at 13:05 As Graham said they are available with nylon and steel strings. Take a look at the pictures here of Mr May and Mr Rodgers using them http://www.queenconcerts.com/instruments/2006-qpr.html

Couple of years ago I bought a Hudson from Cardiff Music and have been very happy with it. It came with a case for about £300 as far as I remember. Have used on many gigs and recorded with it through PA recently and to me it sounds loveley.
