Does anybody want to form a covers band with me? Doing what sort of stuff? well, I don't want it to be a 'pointing and shouting' punk band, no pub is going to want that for 2 hours plus on a Saturday night so it'll need to be toned down a bit. No harm in doing a few punky classics, some 80's indie stuff, maybe some Hives, maybe some classic rock stuff (not much blues though please) but I'm pretty open minded as to set list.

I realise that this is crossing a line from being in a 'serious band' doing 'original stuff' in proper venue type places to prostituting myself for money but I fancy doing some fairly low pressure gigs in pubs that are full of people who are up for enjoying themselves rather than busting a gut trying to get mates to come along to gigs at 'famous 30 years ago' venues and end up playing to the bar staff and the odd drunk in the corner.

If this strikes a chord (even if that chord  is E demolished) get in touch or I'm at the Social at the Miller on 17th Nov and we can hatch a plan then ;o)

This doesn't mean that The Outbursts are stopping, no, no, no, we'll be banging our collective heads against pub walls and 'sticking it to the man' whenever we get the chance in the New Year, don't you worry about that, just I fancy second project and a chance to maybe play a slow song once in a while (am I getting old?)

Low pressure? You must be kidding. Yes, you get paid, but 1) you have to play for a couple of hours, or at least and hour and a half and 2) pubs expect you to fill the venue for them - or you don't get asked back...
1) playing for a couple of hours is not beyond us, we've both done it and it's not hard work

2) you can't have done a gig for 'Club Fabulous' at The Fiddlers in Chalk Farm, it's the same all over, if you don't fill the pub you get shit off the 'promoter' or publican or manager or 'booker'......
Reading my post back it sounds more aggressive than I meant - sorry.

I've always been competely wiped out after playing for 2 hours, I've got to say, though I wouldn't have done it if I didn't enjoy it - and I'd do it again, of course. Actually, we once played to a virtually empty pub (none of our mates would go there because it's so horrible) and I even enjoyed that - we did an encore for the one bloke at the bar who was seeing us for the first time and liked us.

Nevertheless, I always feel that the pressure's on, although playing songs people already know is admittedly a great help. Good luck with it, Matt - I might even join you one day (I'll wear a disguise so you don't know it's me).
Lol, I didn't read anything aggressive in you post, i know you ;o)
